Bigger. Badder. Kid Friendlier.

A few weeks ago I wrote about some upcoming changes that are happening here at Tacoma Strength. To refresh your memory, we’re merging our two gyms into a single Voltron-like Colossus to stomp every other CrossFit gym and make Tacoma the fittest city in the state. We’ve already started sharing trainers and combined the programming. Last week, another milestone was passed when we signed the lease on a new building.

Now, we’ve been deliberately tight-lipped until we actually had something definite to announce. But even though we’ve been silent we’ve been active. We’ve been driving and biking through every business district and neighborhood north of I5. I looked at the commercial property listings for Tacoma so much I memorized them. There is not enough room in this article to fully explain the lengths I went to to track down the owners of various buildings (the Hostess building on Sprague being foremost). I  met with the city and walked away with literally hundreds of pages of demographics data. By the way, if you ever hear some blow-hard whining about the City of Tacoma being unfriendly to business, you have my support to punch them in their fat mouth and walk away. The city has consistently bent over backward to help me as a small business owner.

Anyway, after months of searching, we found our space. It meets all our criteria:

Say hello to the Commencement Bay Coffee Co building at 2354 Jefferson. It’s a couple blocks from UW Tacoma, just up from The Rock restaurant and The Swiss. Since getting the key, I keep going there to show family, or just sit and envision our future.

Tacoma Strength, CrossFit Tacoma

We probably won’t actually move until the end of the year. The next few months for Leon and I will be focused on the design and construction of locker rooms, a strategic plan for the food area, kid proofing the kid area, and planning out how to use the space. You know, no big deal.

But, we want to invite any of you, dear members, to come walk through it with us next Monday. We’ll be there between 10 AM and 12 noon on Monday the 19th to show you around. No RSVP needed, we'll be there, just stop by if you can. If you can’t make it, don’t worry, we’ll have other opportunities over the next couple of months.
